Hi, I'm Chris Brightwell. I'm a co-founder of The Scout History Project and serve as the technical lead for ClothTalk and The Scout History Wiki.

If you're trying to contact me, just leave a note on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

[edit] Scouting as a Youth

[edit] Cub Scouts

I joined Pack 310 (chartered by Challenger Middle School in Huntsville, AL) as a second-year Webelos Scout. I earned my Bobcat and Webelos badges, approximately half of the available activity pins, and my Arrow of Light.

[edit] Boy Scouts

I bridged into Troop 17 (then chartered by Morningside Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL) in May of 1993, although I had been active with the troop (attending campouts and camporees) before I bridged. I earned my Eagle Scout award in 1998 (as did most of the rest of the Flaming Arrow patrol) and earned two eagle palms.

I attended summer camp at Camp Jackson (near Scottsboro, AL), Comer Scout Reservation (near Ft. Payne, AL), and Camp Sidney Dew (near Rome, GA). I participated in a Philmont trek in 1998 (Crew 626H) and spent countless other nights in tents and under the stars.

I held nearly every leadership position available in the troop, including Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Librarian, Instructor, Troop Guide, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

[edit] Order of the Arrow

I was inducted into the Order of the Arrow on September 21, 1996 by Kaskanampo Lodge at Camp Jackson near Scottsboro, AL. A year later (September 13, 1997), I sealed my membership by receiving Brotherhood.

I was inducted into the Vigil Honor in 1999 by Kaskanampo Lodge at Camp Westmoreland near Florence, AL. My Vigil name is "Nagatamen Mawachpo", which translates to "Reliable Treasurer." This is a recognition for the many years I served as Lodge Treasurer and Trading Post Committee Chairman for Kaskanampo Lodge.

I received the Founder's Award from Coosa Lodge in 2001 at Comer Scout Reservation.

I served for many years as a lodge officer in Kaskanampo Lodge and served a single term as Lodge Chief (from October 2001 through October 2002) of Coosa Lodge.

[edit] Scouting as an Adult

As an adult, I feel like I've been more active than ever.

[edit] Boy Scouts

As a registered Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 17, I've mostly been a behind-the-scenes participant. My college education has interfered a great deal with regular troop meetings, but I participate when and where I can.

[edit] Order of the Arrow

Meeting mostly on weekends throughout the year, the OA seems to be a perfect fit for my college schedule. After serving for several years as the chairman for Coosa Shows, I became its lead adviser on my 21st birthday. I'm currently the adviser for Coosa Lodge's Nomination and Recognition Committee and an associate adviser for Coosa Shows.

[edit] Coosa Shows

As an operating committee of Coosa Lodge, Coosa Shows has made a name for itself lately.

The committee has created a slick and contemporary camp promotions DVD for the Greater Alabama Council, produced iSash, helped host the 2000 Section SR-8B Conclave and the 2004 Section SR-6S Conclave, taught a training cell at NOAC 2006, and produced nearly 100 multimedia presentations. We're currently working on our next "big thing."

[edit] Looking Forward

As I finish my college education (B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville), I'm focusing on becoming a registered merit badge counselor (for Cinematography and Photography, among others), an active Assistant Scoutmaster in my troop, and an assistant adviser to a newly-chartered Venture Crew. I'd eventually like to go through Wood Badge.

[edit] Patch Collecting

What purpose does Scouting serve if its not a conduit for collecting and trading patches? Currently, I only collect issues from Coosa Lodge and Kaskanampo Lodge. I have a passive interest in collecting issues from Achunanchi Lodge and Cherokee Lodge, as well. If you have something to trade from one of these lodges, even if it's not marked as a "need", please contact me.

Notations are from oaimages.com.

NOTE: This list is being actively updated as I sort through patches.
